Too Rich For a Bride

So do you like a book that starts with a single gal who wants to make it in the business world and not in the marriage world? And do you like historical settings especially if it is a western setting in Colorado of all places? And what if the business venture takes a side step into romance? Ahhh, then you might like this book.

Ida Sinclair has joined her sisters, Kat and Nell, in the untamed mining town of Cripple Creek, Colorado for one reason: to work for the infamous but undeniably successful businesswoman, Mollie O’Bryan. Ida’s sisters may be interested in making a match for their determined older sister, but Ida only wants to build her career. She is taught how to play the stock market but instead of choosing stocks, she finds she has a choice of beaus. Two of them in fact and they very much want to win her hand.

I liked the fact that the book had short chapters so was a nice read before bedtime. I felt there were too many characters in the story and would've had liked those omitted in order to spend more time in the basic story. All in all it was a light hearted easy read with romance to boot.

I received this book free from Multnomah Publishing for an advance reading as part of their bloggers program . I was not required to write a positive review and therefore, the book review is 100% my own opinion.

No Place Like Holmes

Griffin Sharpe has an uncanny ability to notice everything. Which is a great quality for a future detective, he tells himself. It looks like his big break is about to happen when he gets the chance to visit his uncle in England for an entire summer. Especially when he finds out the address he is going to is the address of the one and only, Sherlock Holmes, the world's most famous detective.

This book is geared towards 9-12 year olds but let me tell you, it had me intrigued from the beginning. Jason Lethcoe, the author, has done an astounding job at writing a mystery book for this age group. He starts with a Loch Ness monster and an innocent clock maker, adds a surprise at Sherlock Holmes address and a robot that works!! Yes, he has my attention. Then we have adventure and combat with guns that don't kill, they just knock you out for 24 hours. I love it!! My grandson loves it!! Can't wait for more books from this creative author!!

Max On Life

This book gathers Max's responses to the most often-asked questions over his more than 30 years as an author, pastor, husband, and father. It is divided into 7 sections: Hope, Hurt, Help, Him/Her (sex, romance), Home, Haves/Have-Nots (work, money), and the Hereafter.

This book will in no way answer all the questions you may have about the Bible, life, or any situation you have had a question about. I would say the first section answers basic questions about salvation, unanswered prayer, and God's will for my life. Although there are definitely other questions that fall under this category.

In the second section on Hurt someone asks Max to explain Romans 8:28. But there are a variety of other questions under this subject also. How to grow closer to God is under 'Help' but again, one cannot possibly list all the questions that are answered under each section.

There really is a wide variety of questions asked and Max gives his insight that is very characteristic of his study and experience over the years. I think this is a great book for any one who loves Max Lucado's writings. But I don't think it's the last answer on any one subject.

The Final Summit

The Final Summit is about a quest to find the one principle that will save humanity. With time running out, it is up to David Ponder and a cast of history's best and brightest minds to uncover this solution before it is too late. The catch? They are allowed only five tries to solve the ominous challenge. Andy Andrews, the author, combines a riveting narrative with astounding history in order to show us the one thing we must do when we don't know what to do.

I really did not get caught up in this story right away. When Gabriel shows up and tells David Ponder he is to head up the Summit of all these great historical people to answer this one question, and their first answer is wrong, I was losing more interest. Then I went to the back of the book and looked at the study questions. Now those I could see leading to some good discussion in a group. So I read on. And on. I was still not greatly impressed by the answers that were given, but did find very interesting to read some historical facts I didn't know about.

But I have to say that I am glad I hung on until the end. Because the final answer has kept me thinking for days. Because it is so true. And doable!! And possible for everyone to do.

Yes I can now say this book is worth your while to read. To discuss in a group study. To share as wise counsel to others. Read it!! You'll be glad you did.

Wonderful Bedtime Read

Yes I did say a 'Wonderful Bedtime Read'. Cause I love to read historical fiction before I go to bed and this was a perfect book for me. I loved the detail of the surroundings and the storyline.....a widowed mother-in-law, 2 sons and their wives. Hmmm, could this have been how it was with Naomi and her family? Yes I know.....a different country than Scotland and the sons were Jacobites. Who knows what Naomi's sons did for a living or if they fought at all.

In spite of that I was definitely intrigued with the story and I thought it was an interesting twist that Elizabeth Kerr's husband was not faithful. Add to that the mother in law enjoyed the finer things in life and it was just an enjoyable read.

Heart of Ice

This is one of those 'hard to put down until I'm finished' reads. It was suspenseful in every sense of the word. It was my first time to read a book by Lis Wiehl and I was not disappointed.

I was told that this was the latest in the Triple Threat Novel series. And if that's the case, I need to catch up on the others. The story is about 3 girlfriends who work together to solve crimes. They have quite the unusual story lines in themselves and you really need to stay with it as you read about each one.

The book starts off immediately with an arsonist starting a fire to burn someone's house because of a girlfriend's jealousy. And let me tell you, this girlfriend, aka Elizabeth Avery, has more problems then her boyfriend's ex-wife!! Enter the three girlfriends, Cassidy, Nicole, and Allison and we learn about their occupations and personal lives.

Next we find out that Cassidy is going to gym classes taught by Elizabeth and they become good friends. So good in fact that Cassidy wants her 2 friends to join her and have them all become good friends together. Which would work if Elizabeth didn't have psychotic problems of the worst kind which would include killing people.

If you like a thriller story, this is the book for you!! I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers for an advance reading as part of their Booksneeze bloggers program . I was not required to write a positive review and therefore, the book review is 100% my own opinion.
