By Faith, Not By Sight

Scott MacIntyre captivated the nation as the first blind finalist on American Idol. As an acclaimed singer-songwriter, he has toured in arenas across North America, and headlined concerts in Japan, Austria, England, Canada, and the US. The cover of the book says this is "The inspirational story of a blind prodigy, a life threatening illness, and an unexpected gift."

This is indeed an inspiring read where Scott chronicles his life and challenges of being blind. He introduces us to his family and we read about the tenacity of his mother and how her encouragement and foresight really helped push him to where he is today. His Dad, brother, and sister are definitely in the picture also. Foremost, Scott gives the ultimate credit to God who guided Scott in paths no one could travel without divine help and strength.

It is amazing to read how Scott handled going to college in England because of a scholarship and just how he handled so many obstacles that a seeing person would have difficulty with. His extrordinary talent for music was seen by his mother at an early age and we read how several music teachers taught him all they knew. At the point he is offered a scholarship to study at the esteemed college/university in England, he finds out he has a failing kidney. The events that happen after that are definitely orchestrated by God Himself.

This is a great read. Scott gives alot of information about American Idol that shows what it is like behind the scenes. So if you are an Idol fan, that information is quite interesting.

I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers for an advance reading as part of their Booksneeze bloggers program . I was not required to write a positive review and therefore, the book review is 100% my own opinion.
